Smart Eye has announced two design wins for interior sensing with a Korean OEM, most probably Hyundai Motor Company (or Kia, or Genesis). Of significance is the declaration that the image sensor for this win is "integrated inside the rear-view mirror." This almost certainly confirms a Smart Eye alliance with Gentex for dumb mirrors, and the actual mirror win is judged to be shown in the image image, which was on display on the Gentex stand at CES. The CMOS image sensor and IR illuminators are shown located in the mirror chin.

In the release Smart Eye says: "The customer has previously implemented Smart Eye’s DMS and CMS software in several of its vehicles and has now chosen to upgrade two of those models, where the technology was previously sourced for DMS only...It’s logical to source the same supplier since there are synergies in connecting both cameras to the same processing platform to achieve better performance and lower cost."
The words "connecting both cameras to the same processing platform" imply this design is a dual-optical path configuration, possibly with DMS on the steering column and cabin monitoring (CMS) in the mirror. It is assumed the tier-1 for the centralized domain controller is Aptiv.
CES confirmed Gentex as a supplier of both smart and dumb mirrors, with the number of mirror suppliers for DMS/CMS now at least three. This is likely to greatly accelerate wins for the mirror location throughout 2025 as OEMs can now nominate based on multiple competing bids.
