VW Could Terminate Bosch Automated Driving Alliance
Details are scant, but developments probably show how Qualcomm has upended the automated driving market with the launch of the Snapdragon Ride SoC and Ride Pilot driving stack
At the end of June, Reuters reported that Volkswagen is to terminate its Automated Driving Alliance (ADA) with Bosch.

Formed at the start of 2022 as an alliance between Bosch and VW’s software unit CARIAD, the goal of ADA was to develop SAE Level 2 systems that included “hands-free” capabilities for driving in cities, on rural roads, and on highways. In addition, the Alliance was to work on a Level 3 system (“eyes-free”) that could take complete control of the vehicle when driving on highways.
The pitch from 2022 was that “by combining real-world driving data with an agile, iterative development approach, the Alliance is creating a scalable software platform that enhances safety, comfort, and efficiency for drivers and passengers alike.”
What happened? Let’s take a look.
